Robert Wickens, who has been a Red Bull Junior since 2006, has been confirmed as the first of two Red Bull drivers to be entered in the Formula Two Championship next season. The 19-year-old Canadian has won races in A1GP, Formula Renault 3.5 and the F3 Euro Series in the last year and hopes that F2 will help him on his way to Formula One.

“For me, the decision to be in F2 is a no-brainer,” he said. “The design of the cars and calibre of the prize means it will be one of the most competitive series around.

“It’s also hard to see any other series competing with F2 at the moment in terms of price, so it’s a great move for me in all senses. I would love to follow Jacques Villeneuve and be the next Canadian in F1, and hopefully I can achieve that through success in F2.”
