Edoardo Piscopo, first driver of the A1 Team Italy has raced for the BP Ultimate Celebrity Karting Challenge
In anticipation of the Taupo race (New Zealand, January 23rd -25th), last week end Edoardo Piscopo and other drivers of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport have raced at the Autosport International of Birmingham for the BP Ultimate Celebrity Karting Challenge, a charity race, whose proceeds have been given to the Richards Burns Foundation, that takes care about finding treatments for serious illness and incidents.
In the same team as the Italian driver were competing four other A1 GP drivers (the Irish Adam Carroll and Niall Quinn, the English Danny Watts and James Winslow) and the eight times Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.
The presence of young but professional drivers has attired several private drivers, who have had the opportunity to confront themselves with professionals and therefore have increased with donations the charity income.
For Edoardo Piscopo, the BP Ultimate Celebrity Karting Challenge, has reopened the race training after the Christmas break.
” It was a charity race – has explained Edoardo – but all participants wanted to win. I haven’t driven a kart for a very long time and I am happy to have done it for this event. The go-kart is one of the best preparatory categories and a good training for an A1 GP driver: the car is very light and powerful, it maintains the reflexes awaken and requires a good athletic preparation. Waiting for the next tests on the official car, I will work out and from this week end I will drive on the Kartcircuit of Rome “Pista d’Oro” , a track were have been forged Fisichella and other Roman drivers”.
“In Taupo – has added the first Italian driver – I expect to arrive in the points zone in both races. The circuit is very tight and is very difficult to overtake: I have to be very good in Qualifying if I want to be in the first 10 positions. The Neo Zealand track is very similar to the Chengdu one, and it is therefore possible that we will do a set up like the one used in China”.
