PowerBoost will not be available in qualifying in A1GP Taupo this weekend.
The new system was trialed at the previous round in Sepang, Malaysia, where teams had the option of using one joker-style ‘PowerBoost’ lap in qualifying, causing mixed grids for both the Sprint and Feature races.
The series will now revert to the original system for Taupo, with further review happening before the next round, A1GP Gauteng in February.
“Some teams loved it and some teams hated it,” said an A1GP spokesperson. “A1GP has decided after representation from various quarters to see what this weekend’s grids look like without it. The series’ organisers will review the situation before A1GP Gauteng, South Africa.”
In addition, race organisers have confirmed that in the event of a safety car period in Sunday’s races, teams would not be able to take their mandatory pit stops while it remained out. This decision was taken on safety grounds due to the tight nature of the Taupo pitlane. Pit stops windows will be extended if necessary.
