Telmex-backed drivers Salvador Duran and Juan Pablo Garcia are already heading to South Africa to participate in round five of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport that will be held this weekend on February 20-22.

The event will be raced at the 4.26-Km. (2.65-mile) Grand Prix circuit of Kyalami, which is located in the Province of Gauteng. The track was opened in 1961 and it has hosted International series such as F1, Moto GP and World Superbike, among others.

Kyalami that means in Zulu language “my home,” is ready to host for the first time the A1GP series, which already raced three times in South Africa, but in the coastal city of Durban where Duran competed once. That’s why it will be a new challenge for the two Mexican drivers, who have never raced there in any other series.

Before heading to South Africa Salvador Duran commented: “We are ready for the race in South Africa at Kyalami. It is a track quite complicated, with medium speed corners, not many straights; almost always you have to be turning. I have talked with some people who have been there and they also agreed it is difficult.”

In 1991 it was built the current layout that has 11 corners and it is raced anti-clockwise, which only shows a small change since, the building of a chicane at the penultimate corner.

On the other hand, Mexican rookie Juan Pablo Garcia said: “I return to the activity again in the A1 GP at the Kyalami track in South Africa, I have never been in this track, but I’ve been checking the track layout and using a simulator to get there knowing as much as possible of the circuit.”

About the race weekend, Duran gave his opinion: “We are heading to South Africa with the responsibility to work hard with the team in order to be up front again. There’s a lot of work to do. I think we are just starting. It’s hard getting there to set up everything with no testing. However, we are going to do our best and we don’t rule out we can get a good result. At the moment, we can only promise that we are going to work intensely and we are going to make our best effort to achieve good results.”

Juan Pablo Garcia added: “On the heels of a good experience in New Zealand, where I liked very much the A1GP Powered by Ferrari car, I feel very excited for driving this car again. It’s totally new for me and I am going to gain more experience.”
