This morning, in the Carroccio hall of the Campidoglio, Edaordo Piscopo, first driver of A1 team Italy, has been rewarded from the town council of Rome, for being the best Roman driver of the 2008 season for the results obtained in Formula3 and in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, the nation vs nation championship that uses all cars with a Ferrari engine.

In the last season , the driver from Olgiata (a district area of Rome) has conquered the second position in the F3 championship and has become the first driver of the Italian team in A1GP. Last November, he has had from Ferrari the opportunity to do a test on the F2008 in Fiorano.

” Edoardo Piscopo – has declared the Honourable Alessandro Cochi, delegate for sports at the town Council of Rome – has represented Italy and his city in motorsport competition of highest level. The experience he has maturated in kart and in several other motorsport series has brought him to become the first driver of A1Team Italy in the A1GP. The results of this young man confirm the growth of Rome from the point a view of sports; the Capital city, indeed, shows its athletes at highest level and hosts also international events, among which could maybe count on a round of the Formula1 championship1″.

“I am happy for this recognition received from the town council of Rome – comments Edoardo Piscopo – and I hope it will bring me luck in the next A1GP race. I hope that this award may encourage a collaboration between A1GP, the Administration of Rome, and maybe the Italian government; a partnership that, like for many countries participating to the series, may allow us a further quality leap “.

Tonight Edoardo Piscopo will fly to South Africa where next week end will tale place the fifth round of the season: ” Not even a month has gone since the Taupo race. We had little time to prepare the race, but we have tried to maximise the time. I have worked hard with my coach in order to improve the muscular resistance and reduce the recovery time. I have also worked out up in the mountains, by doing cross-country skiing. The Gauteng round is very challenging for the physique: the lateral “g” in the turns put the neck muscles to the test and the trapezius and the heath lengthens the time of physical recovery”.
