Why do we love A1GP so much?
Anyone watching the South Africa GP today knows why — awesome racing!
On the first lap you can’t win a race but you can lose it — A1Team Ireland know this as they are out.
Then a couple of laps later A1Team New Zealand was nudged off the track and out by Malaysia and at the same time A1Team Mexico nudged France up the back.
It seems as though A1Team Malaysia had run into Irelands offside rear tyre before Malaysia hit New Zealand.
All through the field there were cars competing for position.
First pits stop saw a very long stop for leader A1Team Monaco [15.9] then A1Team Germany arrived in pit box as A1Team Australia was about to leave and the Australian car stalled and wouldn’t restart.
The leaders after first pit stop were A1Teams SUI, MON, BRA, NED, GBR, POR, RSA, GER, LEB, USA.
Lap 15 and A1Team.RSA is out cruising back to pits with gearbox or electrical problems.
This is the first time that the ‘powered by Ferrari’ car is showing its potential. Overtaking at speed everywhere on track.
Lap 20 and the leaders are A1Teams SUI, MON, BRA, NED, GBR, POR, LEB, GER, INA and CHN.
Lap 23 and A1Team Monaco run wide and Brazil swept past up into 2nd.
After second pits stop window the leaders are A1Teams SUI, BRA, MON, NED, POR, GBR, LEB, USA, INA and ITA with 12 laps to go.
Gaps are wider now 9.7, 8.2, 2.2, 1.1, 6.7, 5.1, 11.7, 10.2, 1.1
With 6 laps to go A1Team Malaysia using up their powerboosts on one lap grab the fastest lap at 1:28.306 although they are 19 laps down.
Congratulations to A1Team Switzerland!
