It was a hard day for the Mexican Team in the historic Grand Prix circuit of Kyalami, where the fifth round of the 2008-09 season of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport took place this weekend.
“It was a difficult start from 16th on the grid for the first race. We could not recover from that, on the contrary, we lost at the start of the race. The car was not good and even though we tried our best, things didn’t go our way”, said Salvador Duran about the Sprint race.
“Between the first and the second races, Ferrari found a problem with the fuel pump that had affected us for the entire weekend. Without a doubt, fixing that problem helped us a lot for race 2”, he added. “For the second race we had a good strategy and two sets of new tires. Three laps into the race and we had moved up more than six places. We were very strong. I had just passed Portugal and was trying to overtake France when he closed the door on me; we touched briefly, but enough to puncture my left front tire. That was the end of our weekend. I am sad because Portugal finished fifth and we were ahead and faster than them”.
Now, the Team has one month to re-group and forget the past before getting back in action in Portugal next April for the sixth round of the season. A1 Team Mex will be again looking to end with their bad luck and finally add up their first points of the year.
