Oliver Jarvis admits he is facing a make or break season — driving a second-hand motor.
The young Brit is heading into his second year as an official Audi driver in the DTM championship for hi-tech touring cars.
Like last season, he will have to make do with a year-old model because only Audi’s designated ‘top four’ stars will have brand new machinery with which to fight their counterparts from Mercedes-Benz.
But despite the frustration, single-seater convert Olly is looking at the bright side.
In an exclusive video interview with The Sun, he said: “I’m always looking to step up into the newer machinery.
“But I knew it was a slim chance this year as Audi still have some brilliant and experienced drivers in front of me in the queue.
“There will probably be some movement at the end of the year, so for those of us in year-old cars it’s all to play for.
“I’m looking at the long game and if I can do a good job there will be opportunities to get a new car. My time will come.”
Former A1GP star Jarvis also talks candidly about his female team-mate, fast Briton Katherine Legge, and his enduring hopes of bouncing back into top-line single-seaters.
