Toro Rosso team boss Franz Tost revealed their test driver for 2009 while speaking with reporters during Formula One testing at Barcelona on Tuesday.
“We (Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing) will share the third driver. It is Brendon Hartley, who is the driver from the Red Bull driver pool,” the Austrian said.
Hartley, who contested British F3 last year, recently qualified for a FIA superlicense by completing the requisite mileage at a winter test.
Hartley’s New Zealand manager Peter Johnston said he had spoken with Hartley on Tuesday night but declined to confirm or deny the report.
Hartley is officially down to drive for the Carlin Motorsport team in this year’s European Formula Three championship beginning in May.
Brendon Hartley’s only appearance in A1GP saw him 5th fastest Rookie for A1Team.NZL at 2007/08 A1GP New Zealand, Taupo.
