A1 Team Lebanon’s Daniel Morad has his sights set on scoring the team’s maiden victory following its best ever finish in Gauteng last month.

Morad finished sixth in the Feature race in South Africa, and while it was a strong drive from the back of the grid, it was still somewhat of a disappointing result considering the superb pace Morad and Lebanon had been showing in practice.

The 18-year-old was quickest on Friday, and performed strongly in all other sessions held prior to qualifying. However, then it went wrong when it mattered most, with the team’s engine developing a misfire, relegating Morad to the back of the grid for both races.

After similar issues blighted his Sprint race, he was able to drive through the field in the Feature, putting strong moves on established front-running teams including Great Britain, Germany and India.

Having showed the pace, Morad is now targeting Lebanon’s first ever A1GP medal before the season is out.

“Since Taupo, every race I am coming to I am confident now that we should be in front,” Morad told A1GP.com. “That’s where we should be. It’s unfortunate we had problems in qualifying in Gauteng but all through the practice we were in position 1 and comfortably on top, it just went wrong in qualifying – so hopefully we will have better luck next time.

“From now on we should be fighting for pole positions and race wins and if we have a bad weekend we will be fifth. That’s the way I’m looking at it.

“Sixth was a good result but from this point on it’s going to be better and better. Qualifying will get better and better. It’s been good in the past.

“I could have done even better in the race, because I haven’t had much experience with the heavy fuel load and worn out tyres, and it was pretty tricky. It was a shame we didn’t get to do a lap in qualifying because I could have put the car on pole.”

Lebanon currently has eight points, putting it 16th in the current standings, its highest ever championship position.
