A1 Team France today raced in the sixth round of the 2008-09 World Cup of Motorsport Championship on the Algarve International Autodrome in Portugal.

After a difficult qualifying session the chances of scoring points looked dim. Nonetheless, the team tackled the 2 races with its usual determination. This approach paid off and after finishing in 13th place in the short race Nicolas Prost came home sixth in the Feature event. The French driver managed to avoid the numerous crashes and race incidents climbing back up through the field from nineteenth on the grid.

A1 Team France added an extra 5 points to its tally this week-end. With a total of 46, it is currently lying fifth in the overall classification, and hopes to add to its score in the next round at Brands Hatch (Great Britain) on 3rd May.

Olivier Panis, Sporting Director : ” Yesterday evening, we thought it would be really difficult to add points to our score. Bu we also knew that the A1GP races are very hotly contested and that consistency pays off. By adopting a steady rhythm and avoiding all the on-track incidents Nicolas fought his way up the time sheets. The team had the right strategy and with perfectly carried out tyre changes contributed to this final result, which does a lot for our morale. Hats off to everybody! ”

Sprint Race : 13th
Feature Race : 6th

” The car was a lot quicker today even if its braking wasn’t perfect. In the short race, it was impossible to score points given the limited number of laps. However, in the Feature event it was possible to pass and take advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves. Five points isn’t a lot but it’s a small reward for the team after a difficult weekend. Things will be better at Brands Hatch! ”

A1 Team France a disputé aujourd’hui la sixième manche du championnat A1GP 2008/09, Coupe du Monde du Sport Automobile, sur l’Autodrome International d’Algarve (Portugal).

Après des qualifications difficiles, les chances d’entrer dans les points étaient minces. Néanmoins, l’équipe a abordé les deux courses de la journée avec la même détermination que d’habitude. Cette approche a payé : après une 13ème position décrochée à l’issue de la course courte, c’est une 6ème place finale qui attendait Nicolas Prost à la fin de la course longue. Le pilote tricolore a su se frayer un chemin parmi les différents accrochages et faits de course, remontant peu à peu le peloton depuis sa 19ème place sur la grille.

Au final, A1 Team France inscrit 5 points supplémentaires ce week-end. Avec 46 unités au compteur, l’équipe occupe la 5ème place du classement général et espère augmenter encore son capital lors de la prochaine épreuve, à Brands Hatch (Grande Bretagne), le 3 mai prochain.

Olivier Panis, Directeur Sportif : ” Hier soir, nous pensions qu’il serait vraiment difficile d’ajouter des points à notre total. Cependant, nous savons que les courses de A1GP sont très disputées et que la constance paie. En parvenant à éviter tous les pièges de la piste et à adopter un rythme très régulier, Nicolas est remonté dans le classement. L’équipe, avec une stratégie adéquate et des changements de pneumatiques parfaitement exécutés, a contribué à ce résultat final, qui fait du bien au moral. Bravo à tous. ”

” La voiture était plus compétitive aujourd’hui, même si tout n’était pas parfait du côté du freinage. Lors de la course courte, il était impossible de marquer des points car le nombre de tours était trop limité. Cependant, lors de la course longue, il a été possible de dépasser et de tirer parti des opportunités qui se sont présentées. Cinq points, c’est peu, mais c’est une petite récompense pour l’équipe au terme d’un week-end difficile. Ca ira mieux à Brand Hatch ! “
