A1 Team Malaysia will debut Aaron Lim at this weekend’s seventh round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. The team is delighted to be introducing the talented young Malaysian driver to top level international racing and is looking forward to the UK event at Brands Hatch circuit in Kent.
Brands Hatch is a world renowned racing facility, dating back to 1926, when cycle races were first held there. Pedal power gave way to motorbikes in 1928, but it wasn’t until 1950 that cars started to race at the facility. From 1964 to 1986 the venue was host to the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The circuit boasts many motor racing legends on its roster of winners including Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jack Brabham, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna and Jenson Button.
This track is loved by drivers and spectators alike, with its ideal mix of undulating corners and changing cambers, thrilling esses sections and the adrenalin-rushing Paddock Hill Bend. The circuit’s bowl shape creates a natural amphitheatre and gives spectators unrivalled views of the circuit. The A1GP cars run on the full 3.7km Grand Prix configuration, taking the drivers out to the back of the circuit and through the fast section of track in the impressive woodlands giving the drivers the chance to put down the power and enjoy the incredible speed of the A1GP car.
It will be Lim’s third visit to Brands Hatch, with the A1 Team Malaysia driver having taken part in the A1GP rookie sessions for the last two seasons there. Many of the more experienced drivers will have considerably more knowledge of the track as it is a mainstay of many of the European racing championships. Lim is undaunted by the challenge ahead, but is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
He says, “I know I’ll be one of the most inexperienced drivers on the A1GP grid at Brands Hatch, but you have to start somewhere and what better venue than this historic race track. I’m keeping my expectations very realistic and will be taking it step-by-step, focusing on each session as we progress through the weekend. I love the circuit and I can’t wait to be driving the A1GP car again, so Friday can’t come soon enough for me.”
Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive, A1 Team Malaysia adds, “Aaron is showing great maturity in his approach to this event. We know we have given him one of the more challenging tracks as a venue for his debut, but we’re confident he’ll cope with the additional pressures of moving from rookie to main driver this weekend. We know he’ll do the best he can for us and for Malaysia and that’s all we ask of him. He has everyone in the team and the nation behind him for Brands Hatch. “
The A1GP Brands Hatch, Great Britain event runs from Friday 1 May – Sunday 3 May. The two main races are scheduled to take place at 11.00am and 3.00pm on Sunday (local time).
