A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will be in Brands Hatch (Great Britain) from May 1st to 3rd for the seventh and final round of the 2008/2009 season. A1GP Mexico City has been cancelled because of the outbreaks of the swine flu. Therefore, the English race week end will design the world champion.
A1 Team Italy will face the race week end with the intention to finish the season with a good result. After the positive debut in Portimao (a pole position and a 4th place in the Sprint Race) Vitantonio Liuzzi will be again the first driver of the Italian team.
Coming back from the Formula1 race in Bahrein (Liuzzi is the third driver of the Force India team), the Italian driver has begun the preparation of the Brands Hatch race, by exercising on the official A1GP simulator. During all Wednesday in Modena Liuzzi has familiarize with the English track in order to schedule the different steps of the car set up.
“Vitantonio will race for the first time in Brands Hatch – declares Piercarlo Ghinzani, seatholder of A1 Team Italy – the A1GP simulator is ideal to memorize the characteristics of the circuit. Moreover, the work we have done during the tests on the structure and on the regulations are reliable at 90%. The English circuit is challenging with up and down and narrow turns: we will need many laps to define the right set up. We have already registered Liuzzi at the rookie session in order to gain time in the car preparation. The strategy? To find the best compromise between cohesiveness and the wishbone absorption”.
“Comparing to the Algarve race I am more confident with the car and I am conscious of its potential – comments Vitantonio Liuzzi – From tomorrow on we will work on the optimization of the lap speed and to improve the balance. In Portugal we have been quite fast and always close to the best teams. The objective is to bet high, we want to win”.
“Racing on a new circuit – adds Liuzzi – doesn’t worry me: I am excited because I will discover a new circuit on which the history of motorsports has been written but I will arrive calm. The track has some similarities with Portimao, the turns and the bumps make it thrilling and amusing”.
