A1 Team Malaysia has set a new goal for the next two weeks and the team needs the support of every one of its fans to realise it. The team is determined to win one of the annual end-of-season A1GP awards which have just been announced. This year it is the votes of the fans that will determine the winners of the four available awards and so A1 Team Malaysia is relying on its massive popularity to bring at least two of the awards home.
A1 Team Malaysia has been shortlisted for the Most Improved Team award. Fans can also nominate the team for the Best Overtaking Move of the season and all the teams are in contention for the A1GP.com Fans’ Favourite Team award.
At the end of each season the series website, A1GP.com gives fans the unique chance to vote for their favourite team. However, for the first time it will be the fans who will decide the winners in all four categories. The awards are presented as recognition to the teams in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for their season long efforts and triumphs. A1 Team Malaysia needs its fans to show their support and vote at the A1GP website www.a1gp.com.
After taking a giant leap in the championship standings by jumping from 15th in the 2007/08 season to an incredible sixth place in 2008/09, A1 Team Malaysia is one of six nations that have been shortlisted for the title of Most Improved Team of 2008/09.
A1 Team Malaysia became the Fans’ Favourite Team last season and is targeting a repeat of this success in the 2008/09 awards. The competition will be tough, with new nation, Monaco, quickly building a loyal following, as well as the winners from the second season – the Netherlands – always being a threat.
A1GP has suggested five outstanding passes from different races this season for the Best Overtaking Move award, however there is an option for fans to vote for their own favourite. The team has identified Fairuz Fauzy’s overtaking of John Martin in Chengdu as one which should be in contention for this award. Fans just need to select ‘Other’ on the voting form and input ‘A1 Team Malaysia overtaking Australia, Chengdu’ in the space provided.
To vote for A1 Team Malaysia in the A1GP.com awards fans need to log on to the website at www.a1gp.com and select the Awards Vote section. Fans should then vote for A1 Team Malaysia in all the relevant categories and submit the completed voting form before the deadline of 5 June.
Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive, A1 Team Malaysia says of the A1GP.com awards, “It would be fantastic for us to win one of these awards for our efforts this season. The team has worked very hard all year and to be given recognition for this would be a fitting end to one of our best seasons of A1GP. We know we have one of the most enthusiastic and loyal fanbases of any A1GP team and to achieve our goal of winning an award now is the time that we need their help.”
A1 Team Malaysia is one of 20 nations competing in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, finishing sixth overall this season and is the only Asian nation to take a pole and a victory en-route to this success. The team is currently preparing for 2009/10, the fifth season of competition in this unique motor racing series.
