Adam Carroll plays the waiting game for now

A1GP World champion, Adam Carroll, is willing to play the waiting game before making his next move up the motorsport standings.

The Portadown-born driver recently steered Team Ireland to success in the high-profile A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and has been tipped to take up a coveted Formula One seat.

Carroll, although quick to highlight Formula One as the ultimate goal, is refusing to rush into any decision on his future.

“It is all about adopting a patient approach then weighing up any offers when they come along,” he said. “I was recently offered a one-off appearance back in the GP2 Series and have a number of interesting options on the table.

“The momentum off the back of the A1GP win has been fantastic and I just want to push as hard as possible over the next few months towards Formula One.

“However, Formula One as a sport is sorting itself out at present so other areas will be looked at before the issue of fresh drivers.

“I should have a clearer understanding down the line once the teams for 2010 are confirmed.

“Something like nine or 10 applicants are part of the process at present but that will then get reduced to a final three for a 26-car grid next season.

“Once those teams are set in stone then certain opportunities may open up but, at the minute, it is just about letting everything develop.

“Nothing can really move forward at this point but I do not want to rush into any commitment anyway as my next decision must be the right one for my career.

“Success in the A1GP has helped open a number of doors and resulted in various opportunities so it is an exciting period.”

Carroll has had little time to reflect on his title-winning A1GP campaign following the dramatic final weekend at Brands Hatch in early May.

“It has been hectic and one long run of media dates and public appearances but I am not complaining,” he said. “Getting an invitation to events such as golf’s Irish Open or the North West 200 road race is great fun.

“I was also on the Tubridy Tonight television show for my first live general interview and it has some of the highest viewing figures in Ireland.

“I am also still trying to catch up on the various text messages and voicemails from people offering congratulations.

“I hope to take off for a holiday sometime soon but am back home at the minute just spending time with my family.”
