BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team are set for a big bang in Round Three of the Rotax Max Challenge Asia at the Sepang Go-Kart Circuit this weekend with A1 Team Indonesia driver Zahir Ali making his debut for the outfit.

The 21-year-old, who is on a break from his duties in the German Formula Three series, has joined the team following successful tests in the team’s new CRG karts.

With the signing of Zahir, who will compete in the senior class alongside the team’s Malaysian karter Ron Tan, BHPetrol.Iru1 Racing Team will be gunning for their first ever victory after several close calls this season.

Ron, 14, will be making his debut in the senior class.

“It’s great to make a comeback to karting. I also have a good relationship with the team. It is also good to help develop the CRG chassis and possibly secure a win for the team,” said Zahir, who was a candidate for Rookie of the Year in the last A1GP season.

Besides Zahir, another popular Indonesian Ryan Haryanto has also confirmed his seat with BHPetrol.Iru1 this weekend.

Ryan, 21, the 2007 Rotax Asian champion and also Formula Renault Asia driver is currently on a summer break from college in the US and completes the team’s line-up for the senior class.

“This is a good addition for the team and especially for Ron who probably has the best teammates in Asia,” said team principal Nik Iruwan Nik Izani.
