A1GP now focusing on the future

A1GP spokesperson Ann Bradshaw talking to Press Association Sport’s suggested A1GP’s focus is now on the future.

“We haven’t raced and we’re not currently in a position to race in the near future, but this won’t be the death of the series, and organisers are already working towards the future,”

“The likelihood of us racing at all (in the 2009-10 campaign) is getting further and further away, and even if we started up tomorrow it would be truncated. The focus is on the future.”

Bradshaw also played down the significance of any A1GP teams opting to participate in Superleague Formula, the motorsport series that involves a selection of the world’s leading football clubs.

“A lot of our teams work in other fields and race in various series – it’s nothing new,” said Bradshaw, who cited the example of A1GP boss Tony Teixeira intending to use the Campos Meta team as a training base for Formula One.

“None of our teams have exclusive contracts with us, so if some are deciding to race in Superleague Formula that doesn’t surprise me or worry me as it makes business sense. The two series (A1GP and Superleague Formula) are complementary. One races in the winter and the other races in the summer.”
